Opportunities Subcommittee: Ann Thompson Ann Thompson had over 24 years experience in librarianship. The majority of that time has been in public libraries. Ann has had experience as a college and university librarian and as Head of Schools and Children's Library Services. She has also been a university lecturer teaching public librarianship and cultural and communication studies. She was a member of The National Committee on Racism in Children's Books. In 1981 she established African Caribbean Library Association (ACLA), which is now an Organisation in Liaison with The Library Association. ACLA is also a member of the Diversity Council, and Equal Opportunities Subcommittee. She is a pioneer in community librarianship to ethnic minorities. In 1998 she received the Royal Charter Centenary Medal for outstanding service. She is committed to challenging racial discrimination in library systems and has presented papers in Africa, America and the UK on race equality issues. Ann currently works part-time as a senior librarian and as a consultant on cultural diversity. |
