Equal Opportunities Subcommittee:
Biographical Notes

Geoff Mills

Born in London, brought up on Teesside, and settled in the West Midlands.

Twenty-nine years with Birmingham Libraries in various guises, for the most part involved in community librarianship, and proud to be part of Birmingham's reputation for innovation. Led an inner-city team of librarians for many years in the heyday of outreach and community information activities and have always maintained an interest in encouraging awareness among people who do not traditionally use library services. Established the-Mobile Library Service in Birmingham and redefined the Prison Library Service. Currently Head of Community Library Services and a member of the senior management team, with strategic responsibility for staff training and development. The main challenge at present is to ensure that community library services remain responsive in the light of the changing population in Birmingham as it moves towards being a Black majority city in the next ten years.
