Equal Opportunities Subcommittee:
Biographical Notes

Margaret E S Forrest, MA, MSc, DipLib, FLA, MIInfSc

Librarian, Health Education Board for Scotland.

I am a deaf librarian who depends almost entirely on electronic aids and equipment and the goodwill of other people to hear and communicate effectively. I am especially interested in health care library and information services and have worked in this area since 1984. As a hospital librarian I was particularly keen to encourage patients to make full use of the library for recreational as well as information purposes. Providing reading material in alternative formats and with a range of reading aids is essential to promote equal opportunities. Since 1991 I have worked in a health promotion library which is open to the public in Scotland. Enabling people to obtain health information in a format and language which is accessible to them is very important to me. My other interests include reading therapy, hill running and Munro bagging.
