Scheme
Conditions
A number of organizations have formal links with the
Association under our 'Organizations in Liaison' scheme. The scheme was introduced in
1979,and the revised conditions as agreed by Council on 12 June 1996 are listed below.
- The object of this scheme is to provide communication of
information and, where appropriate, mutual support, between The Library Association and
such organizations as satisfy condition 2 below but which do not have a membership
comprising entirely Library Association members and cannot therefore become groups of The
Library Association.
- National organizations which include in membership a
substantial number of members of The Library Association, and which are concerned in some
way with the promotion of similar objects to those of The Library Association, may be
taken into liaison with The Library Association.
- An organization accepted into liaison will remain independent
in its policy and administration, but The Library Association shall have the right to
appoint an observer to its governing body to act in a liaison capacity between the
organization and itself.
- Liaison may be terminated at any time by notice from either
side.
- The associated organization will undertake to print on its
notepaper and reports 'In liaison with The Library Association'.
- The Library Association, if so requested, may offer the
following assistance to an associated organization:
- accommodation for meetings, at a 20% discount rate;
- news of the organizations' activities in the Library
Association record at the discretion of the Editor. Notices of meetings in the
Calendar of Library Association record, subject to space being available;

same discount rate available to Library Association Branches and Groups (currently 20%);
- Library Association Publishing publications at the same
discount rate available to Library Association members (currently 20%);

available to a named contact.

- amount of all grants not to exceed £1,500.00 in any one year;
- grants are made to the organization in liaison rather than to
an individual member of that organization;
- total amount to be allocated to successful applicants will not
exceed £500.00 each in any year;
- organizations would normally only receive support for two
years consecutively;
- applications for a grant should be made during the month of
September for consideration early in October each year;

Management Board, against the following criteria:
- pump priming, or seed corn funding, for a new idea or action;

attend;
