This report sets out the strategic framework Library Association activity on lifelong learning by:

  • Placing lifelong learning agenda in the context of wider Government policies and objectives;

  • Providing a broader definition of lifelong learning in relation to informal and non-formal learning;
  • Identifying the key issues for library and information services arising from the lifelong learning agenda;

  • Defining the role that the library and information sector should play in lifelong learning;

  • Outlining the role The Library Association will play in promoting the role of libraries and librarians in lifelong learning;

  • Identifying key areas for Library Association activity, 2002 - 2004.
