Policy Advisory Groups (PAGs)

National Information Policy

The National Information Policy PAG reported to the meeting of the Policy & Resources Committee on 11 October 2001.

The terms of reference were:

  1. To build on the work of the Keystone Conference and make recommendations on how a national information policy framework for the UK can be further developed;
  2. To identify the actions that the Library Association and the library and information sector can take to facilitate this development; and
  3. To strengthen the momentum towards a UK National Information Policy framework through the workings of the Group and the report it produces.

Specific Actions

  1. Establish an agenda for the LIS and kindred bodies that reflects the analysis and previous work of the Library and Information Commission
  2. Recommend research on issues related to the development of a national information policy framework
  3. Recommend changes that would promote the effectiveness of a national information policy framework, identify the key bodies that need to be influenced, the role we would want each body to play and make recommendations as to how this can be achieved
  4. Produce a report for consideration by The Library Association to include recommendations both aimed at the LA itself and also for the LA to negotiate with others
