Our Professional Future

THE INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION SCIENTISTS
THE LIBRARY ASSOCIATION

REVISED PROPOSALS FOR A NEW ORGANISATION FOR THE LIBRARY AND INFORMATION PROFESSION:

STAFFING

Both constituent organisations employ staff. The IIS currently has 4, the LA has 77. We wish to emphasise that our proposals are not driven by attempts to cut costs. The motivation is solely to establish a modern professional organisation for the beginning of the next millennium which achieves the objectives set out earlier in this consultative report. We wish to see an organisation which sets high standards such that the majority of practitioners in the information arena we have defined will wish to join.

We want the new organisation to adopt best practice which, as good employers, constituent organisations have adopted over the years. We expect that, as far as possible, the existing staff of the IIS and of the LA will transfer seamlessly to the new organisation and that there will be no forced redundancies resulting from the unification process.
