Our Professional Future THE INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION SCIENTISTS REVISED PROPOSALS FOR A NEW ORGANISATION FOR THE LIBRARY AND INFORMATION PROFESSION: TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS Given the current constitutional status of the IIS SIGs those wishing to become SIGs within the new organisation will have to consider some major policy, structural and operating changes. It is therefore recommended that the Implementation Task Force set up a specific group to consider further the issue of the role and status of SIGs in the new organisation and that there be a transition period for them to adapt to the arrangements required by the new organisation. It would be a goal of the implementation process that the Implementation Task Force address the concerns of IIS SIGs and the role of SIGs in the new organisation and complete its work before vesting day. IIS SIGs will need to have decided the status for which they wish to apply by that time since, legally, the Institute will cease to exist at this point as therefore will their affiliation to it. The UPG recommends that existing members of SIGs who are not members of the parent bodies on vesting day continue as personal affiliated members of the SIG as long as they remain in continuous membership. New members who wish to join SIGs after vesting day should join the full body, if they are eligible to do so.
