Grinzane Cavour
Receiving funding under the 1999 call for pilot projects, Grinzane Cavour is
a literarature project intending to create a programme for exchanges among
professionals, targetting specifically writers, translators, researchers and
librarians. Prority will be given to professional training. A permanent
observatory of reading across Europe is another aim of the project, as is a
competition for young people on the theme of 'My favourite book'. The
project intends to establish a database to allow the study of the economy,
geography and politics of books and translation. A telematic review will
propose studies and articles about books, reading and translations. UK
organisations Opening the Book and the British Centre for Literary
Translation at the University of East Anglia are among the project partners.

BL/PRO
The British Library and the Public
Record Office were among organisations across
Europe involved in Culture 2000 project SEPIA, which aimed to safeguard
European photographic images for access. The project dealt with historic
photographic collections that are an essential part of the Europe's
cultural heritage. The project's
activities included expert meetings and workshops
to train those working with photographic collections, published reports
and documentation. The project concluded with a major conference at
the PRO in September 2000. SEPIA was co-ordinated
by the Dutch-based European
Commission on Preservation and Access.
