Policy Advisory Groups (PAGS)

The Library Association agreed to set up a number of Policy Advisory Groups in 2000. They covered policy areas identified in the LA's corporate plan as having priority.

The objectives of PAGS were to:

  • Provide a fresh and challenging look at key policy areas
  • Tackle cross-sectoral issues that the LA's current sectorally based structure has difficulty in dealing with effectively
  • Involve more people in the policy development process within the Association, especially those who might not otherwise be able to participate in LA affairs because of heavy time commitments elsewhere

A paper that was considered by the LA's Policy and Resources Committee in April 2000 sets out more fully the thinking behind PAGS.

Four Policy Advisory Groups were created by The Library Association. Two have reported and their reports can be found on the this website:

Further work is taking place in the Social Inclusion PAG but some papers will be found on this website:

The Competitiveness and the Knowledge-Driven Economy PAG - known for short as KPAG - was formed in early 2002. It was always envisaged that it would report to the Executive Board of CILIP.

One key policy area - lifelong learning - was dealt with through the normal Committee structure of The Library Association. You will find this policy document on the LA website as well.
