The vexed question of
a name was asked in two stages. Firstly, members were asked:
“Do you approve of
the name Library and Information Society?”
The answer to this question
was a resounding ‘No’ from everyone.

here are some other names which have been suggested.
Please tick the one you prefer.”
No one name appealed to
everyone, but the most popular was Chartered Institute of Library and Information
Professionals. This was fairly popular with both LA and IIS members, whereas
there was quite a lot of support for Library and Information Association
among members of the LA, but not among IIS members and the other way around
for Chartered Institute of Information Professionals.
