In-house training

Tailor-made
In-house training and consultancy for the library/information profession

Why come to The Library Association for your in-house training & consultancy needs?

We have been providing training for LIS professionals for over 20 years. Our annual programme of CPD workshops receives consistently good feedback. With an excellent group of trainers and consultants - with first class business experience as well as first hand knowledge of the LIS environment - we can advise on the right training solution to suit your need.

What can in house training offer you and your staff?

Effective learning opportunities

In some cases it’s far more effective if a team or group can learn together. Individuals can support each other after the training and encourage the use of new skills and ideas.

Relevance to your organisation

Courses can be tailor made to meet the specific needs of your organisation. There are times when external courses can give you the ideas and techniques but cannot fully get to grips with the unique situations that may be facing your organisation or groups of individuals - it is in these circumstances that in house training can really fit the bill.

Time-saving

No laborious searching is necessary - we will identify the right trainer to meet your needs. We will also produce all the necessary documentation ready for the day.

Value for money

Because in-house training is charged per event rather than per individual it offers excellent value for money. You can make a saving of up to 40% on the costs of our external training if there are 5 or more of your staff who could benefit from in house training. You will also save on travel costs.

Convenience

In-house training offers you the luxury of choosing a suitable date - and venue- to help ensure that training takes place at a convenient time.

The In-house Service

  1. Off the shelf

We run over 80 learning events in our Continuing Professional Development programme each year. Many of these are ideal for in house training as they stand.

Courses from our existing programme which we have run successfully include:

  • project management
  • time management
  • enquiry techniques
  • dealing with difficult people/users
  • learning from work
  • selection & interviewing skills
  • Marc cataloguing
  • assessing client needs
  • costing and pricing techniques
  1. Tailor made

The majority of our courses can be customised to meet the needs of your organisation or alternatively we will also be happy to discuss designing a course specifically for you.

  1. Consultancy

Many of our trainers can provide a consultancy servicen for those occasions when you need more in depth analysis of your situation - whether it’s solving problems, starting up new projects or giving advice on change management strategy.

  1. Computer facilities

If you do not have a suitable venue that you can use for Internet or On line training for your staff you may wish to consider hiring our fully equipped training suite which can cater for up to 8 people.
