Turning Points
Moving into Management

A learning support toolkit for the continuing professional development of library and information graduates

Centre for Research in Library and Information Management (CERLIM)

February 1998
Draft Version 5.0

The Toolkit has been produced as an experimental package as part of the LISTEN Project, with support from the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE).

The Toolkit is intended to assist fairly new, and maybe not-so-new, graduate Library and Information workers in reviewing their knowledge, skills, competencies, qualities and abilities at some 'Turning Point' in their career, particularly when moving into management. The Toolkit may also have value in providing a stimulus for an 'independent' review - e.g. every couple of years - of one's achievements and professional development needs.

The Toolkit consists of 3 sections:

Section A consists of a series of discussions, explanations and exercises to lead the user through a review of current work role, strengths and weaknesses as a prelude to developing an action plan.
This section is supplied to Registration candidates through the Library Association's Professional Qualification Department.  For a copy please email PQuals@la-hq.org.uk or call 020 7255 0610.

Section B consists of a number of resources which have been identified as potentially useful in supporting different aspects of professional development.
